ok, now try more rigorous (maybe make a backup of these files first):

# rm /etc/sysconfig/hwconf
# rm /etc/modprobe.conf
# rm /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth*
# rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf

# kudzu
# system-config-display --noui --reconfig -v
