When I started out, system-config-users hadn't been invented yet and one 
had to use adduser at the commandline.

I still do. Works well, if one's using /etc/passwd etc. I've not 
discovered whether it works with ldap (I think it does on OS X, but 
there are so many commandline tools for fiddling with user accounts on 
OS X I get confused).
