Hi, folks. We're upgrading all of our SL 3 systems to SL 3.0.9 as a
stop-gap measure until we can upgrade to SL 5 (or other). A user on one
such system (i386) has noticed that xpdf garbles older PDF documents.
The program seems to work fine on documents for which "file" reports PDF
version 1.4, but it makes a mess of documents with versions earlier than
that.

Also, I've been unable to install either of the two versions of acroread
currently available from Adobe (8.1 and 7.9, IIRC), because of an
unsatisfied dependency on gtk2.

Has anybody else noticed this problem? Are there any solutions or
workarounds?

Thanks.
