To completely disable IPv6 it is necessary to add:

alias net-pf-10 off

to /etc/modprobe.conf

and add:

NETWORKING_IPV6=no

to /etc/sysconfig/network

(and then to reboot the system, as the ipv6 module
cannot be removed .. being in use ..)

Jarek

PS: first part of above is enough to disable ipv6:
    second one will just ensure that ipv6 related services
    do not start on bootup (so one does not see these
    red 'failed' messages).
