Yes, I have tried to make a none automate install but also I have installed
SL in two desktops with automate options on entire hard disk because I am
using SL on two dual core machines for running parallel programs with
lam/mpi. Now I am not trying any more for installing SL on my laptop because
I have a lot of data on laptop, that I don't want to loose if something goes
wrong.

There are many options inside SL too, and definitely there are people here
that know much
about these stuff. Recently I resized my LVM2 volume from two hard disks to
one, but it is
an unsafe operation. I suppose you have lvm2 volumes for / and swap too and
one partition
for /boot (these are the defaults, I think).
