I didn't see this request the first time it came around, but noticed
the Ralink work and have an alternative.

I am a happy user of the Netgear WG511T, which uses the Atheros
AR5212 802.11abg card. I had to compile the Madwifi 0.9.2.1 drivers,
and I remember there were some tricks with ifconfig files that I had
to get right, but it works! There are still some issues with the
script I use to find access points (I had to compile dhcpcd, turn
off the normal dhcpd mechanisms, etc), but I managed. I wish I had
time to do a writeup of the process.

I found the refurb card for $17 at Fry's Electronics in Oregon;
typical mail-order cost is around $50.
