Hello,
I had the exact same display problem with SL 4.3...and I had to back
down to SL 4.2 after the upgrade to 4.3 failed. I was never able to get
the X server to start properly - I'd see the spinning dots but never a
login screen. I tried all sorts of xorg.conf tweaks and changes but
nothing that I tried helped. I am now running SL 4.4 on the
2.6.9-42.0.3.EL kernel with no problems and it has been stable for
several months now.
My hardware is a Dell Dimension 5150 (Intel Pentium 4/HT) with onboard
video....I don't have the specifics off hand but can try to research
them if it helps you.
