Hi Keith,
Upgrading from SL4.x to SL5.x really isn't supported yet, so I'm nor too
surprised about that nor working.
But, on the plus note.
I have a Dell Latitude laptop (sorry I forget the model number, it's not
with me) where I had to do the same thing on S.L. 4.x (put in acpi=off
in the grub line)
I installed SL5 alpha on a different partition, and it does indeed work
better. I haven't yet tried all the acpi stuff, except for one. On SL
4.4 if I hit the power button, the machine turned off instantly. On SL5
alpha if I hit the power button, it does a controlled shutdown.
I'll try some other acpi tests tonight and let you know. But for now, I
really suggest installing SL5 on a different partition just to test it out.
