Hi - I installed SL4.4 i386 on a new box here. The hardware is fairly
new and
required some tweaking to get up and running, so I figured I post the
info in case
someone runs into similar problems. The system has an Intel DP965LT MB
with
on-board Gigabit ethernet and sound (Sigmatel 6-channel AC97 audio). SL
(and by extension
RHEL) does not recognize the on-board Marvell IDE controller, so you
need to start the
install 'all_generic_ide=1' to install off the cd/dvd (and add it to
the kernel line
in grub.conf if you subsequently want to use the cd! :). The on-board
network also
does not work with the stock e1000 driver, so you need to use a newer
version.
I used e1000-7.1.9 and it works fine - I assume later releases will also
work and that
it should eventually make it up-stream. The sound also does not work; I
used a
patched alsa rpm from the vendor (ASLAB.com) and the onboard sound now
also works.
