Yes, because the stack eating parts are closed source.

Latest ndiswrapper doesn't build anymore on SL3. But for SL4 you can
use http://atrpms.net/dist/el4/ndiswrapper/
Still it's better to avoid ndiswrapper for several reasons, one of
them being that it can kill your stack. You're rather safe on x86_64
though due to the different default stack size there (8K).
