For SL3.* (kernels 2.4.*) it might be worth trying ndiswrapper.
There are fairly positive comments in their supported list at
http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/index.php/List

As far as I know, there has been no resolution of the issues with
ndiswrapper when used with 2.6.* kernels built with the default 4k
stacks (possibly there *can be no resolution*?). But at least as a
temporary solution for SL3.* it may be worth trying; and, once
installed, it can support quite a number of different hardware types,
which may be handy for some users.

At any rate I've been using ndiswrapper successfully with SL303 and
305 and a couple of different chipsets (rt2500[1] and ti1130). I
can't speak specifically for the intel 3945, but if I had it, I sure
would give it a try for SL3.

hope that helps a bit. ndiswrapper source includes recipes to build
an RPM.

[1]For the rt2500 chipset there's also native software, available from
the rt2x00 project (their rt2500-1.1.0-b4.tar.gz works for me); but
you weren't asking about rt2500.
