I assume it's just a typo but grub.conf usually lives
in /boot/grub/grub.conf

It's worth checking too that the getty entry has been removed
from /etc/inittab:

#c:12345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty ttyS0

I have to say that I would prefer that RPM to only get installed if you
specifically asked for it!
