What I meant was concoct a new, updated kernel.  Maybe I should have said
'rpmbuild', but I'm not sure of the terminology.

Yes, that's my understanding, but I haven't created that source tree yet.
Right now all I have is what's in the 2.6.9-22.0.1.EL directory.

I'm sure I am, and I haven't got the source tree yet, not being sure how to
do it.  In fact, do I even need to, to get past the missing files problems?
