I got an off list reply advising to (in xmms) select options >
preferences; choose CD Audio Player 1.2.10, click configure.  Select
Digital Audio Extraction.  In the "Directory" field give it a directory
to write track info to.  Then you can select files in that directory in
xmms and play them.  Works for me.
