|I'm trying to run SL 4.2 on a x486 machine. I've recompiled the kernel and I get the system to boot.
|However, when I try to run rpm, I get al illegal instruction error.

Unless something has changed, SL doesn't support
this architecture. We had to get rid of about 100
AMD 586 class systems when we switched to SL3.

You can buy from redHat, get it from WhiteBox
Linux, or build from the source RPMs if you really
need SL for older systems.
