what do you mean by "loading acpi power related module on boot" ?
acpi seems to be supported already.
In /var/log/messages I find:
Jan 23 10:56:09 linafs1 kernel: ACPI: Interpreter enabled

I also think that it should be some ACPI related problem: if I start the 
single processor kernel, at the reboot  instead of a system hang without 
messages I get an infinite loop with the message:

ACPI: Invalid reset register bit width: 0x000000
