Hi Michael,
I have not specifically tried new cables, however in each trial of 
swapping controller cards and drive positions the system has booted 
normally on the existing fedora core 1 installation.

I have been planning on "upgrading" to neater rounded ide cables, this 
might be a good time to do it anyway...
