No.  If there isn't a specific 'legacy usb device' in the bios, I 
wouldn't worry about turning off USB completely.

You forgot to say which kernel you upgraded from.  There are release 
notes on the kernel's,  so knowing which kernel you came from narrows 
down which release notes to read through.
