My first thing would be to check and see if 'legacy usb' is turned on in 
the bios, and if it is, turn it off.  I've lost count of how many things 
this has fixed.

If that didn't fix anything, then here are some questions.
   Which kernel did you upgrade from?
   Is it x86_64 or i386 (or i686)?
