Failure when upgrading to 4.2

I tried to upgrade to 4.2 without success.  There was no problem with
yum udate yum 
and I installed yum-conf without problem.

Then I did a 

yum upgrade

and many package headers were downloaded until it got to rpmdb.  Here is
the error message.
