I am writing to say that I don't know,
but it's not one of those 100% idle postings....

Although the fact is not much advertised,
SL installs very well via FTP.
Get a small boot image, and look for a mirror
that is fast when accessed from your location.

You won't dl any unnecessary stuff.

If you have only one machine and a decent connection, go to
ftp://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/40/i386/images/SL/

(TinyURL = http://tinyurl.com/bgrge )

 - boot.iso is the current net-install CD image

 - diskboot.img is a VFAT filesystem fit for writing
on a USB flash drive using the "dd" program
(Won't work from a HD partition, although the README
says it can be put on any "boot media".)

In Milan, I slurped up the desktop distro from Zurich
(ftp://mirror.switch.ch) in under 90 minutes.
