Create a file on the SL4/1.3.82 client. Then delete it on some SL3/1.2.11 
client. Then check from the SL4/1.3.82 client: it will still be there.
Edit it with vi on the SL4/1.3.82 client and see what happens when you try 
to save it... I can reproduce this reliably at least with x86/UP, haven't
tried the others yet.

There's already a suggestion which patches to back out on the openafs-info 
list. I'll hopefully come around to trying it this week, but don't hold 
your breath.
