    Mark Whidby sent email saying
"Steve,

I've had this too and so have other people - in theory it should be
possible but something's wrong somewhere. Until it's fixed you'll need to
unpack the CDs into a structure as described by:

http://listserv.fnal.gov/scripts/wa.exe?
A2=ind0502&L=SCIENTIFIC-LINUX-USERS&P=R15928&I=-3

(that URL is wrapped round)

I hope this helps"

Mark's advice did work for a network install, but not for a hard drive
install.
