Using anaconda to upgrades should always be better than using yum or 
apt.  This is because anaconda had code specifically to handle upgrades. 
 Yum and apt rely on the individual rpms to do it correct.  Sometimes 
the individual rpms do not have enough code to handle the upgrade.  A 
example of this is that with SL 4.0 /dev is created on the fly.  On SL 
3.0.x /dev is created with a rpm.  If yum were to upgrade this it would 
leave the old dev rpm and this could clearly make the new /dev confused.
