Hello,

thanks to everybody who sent the advices.

It has inspired me to test again what is going on. As first step I tried
to change the nfs server (I used Digital UNIX 4.0f as the NFS server
before).

I started to use Linux NFS server and found out that it does work!

I tested again my old server and found that I get routinely signal 11 as
described earlier. The signal 11 arises during the mount process from NFS
server (I saw it on screen 3 - Alt/F3 just after the receiving the signal
11).

I do not know why so serious difference in between two platforms. May be
it is result of minor peculiarity or unknown for me bug. Anyway old
fashion Digital is just near to be retired.

Also I have found out that with Linux NFS server you might get a range of
error messages in case of some mistyping, for instance:

- no such directory or the directory does not contain SL directory tree;

- the directory could not be mounted (in case when no permission to mount,
  or the directory is not exported on NFS server)

Because I have no DHCP server (all IPs are static) I was urged to use two
floppy disks (one for system with file ks.cfg and other floppy with the
network drivers). Also I needed to answer on the question on the console.

In result (to avoid any console questions) I use single CD disk for every
machine (it will be used later on as the fast reinstall the OS) with
following files

 =======================================================================
[root@ram3 Installed]# ls -lt isolinux/
total 3048
-rwxr-xr-x    1 root     root         1183 Nov 16 14:15 ks.cfg
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root         9428 Nov 16 12:36 isolinux.bin
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root           82 Nov 16 12:36 isolinux.cfg
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root      2198339 Nov 16 11:45 initrd.img
-rw-r--r--    1 root     root       890390 Nov 16 11:44 vmlinuz
 ========================================================================

The files were downloaded from the directory
ftp://linux03.fnal.gov/linux/scientific/302/i386/isolinux/

Example of the file ks.cfg

 =======================================================================
[root@ram3 Installed]# cat isolinux/ks.cfg

langsupport en_US
keyboard us
mouse --emulthree genericps/2
timezone --utc America/New_York
rootpw --iscrypted *********************

bootloader --useLilo --linear --location=mbr

nfs --server 129.49.17.68 --dir /Short1Users

autopart # Automatically define the disk partitions.

# That is for new host
#            Network ports
network --bootproto static --device eth0 --ip 129.49.17.85 --netmask

 ============================================================================

The CD disk is prepared by commands

 ============================================================================
mkisofs -o SUNY-KS-NFS.iso -b isolinux.bin -c boot.cat -no-emul-boot \
        -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -R -v -T isolinux/

/usr/bin/cdrecord -v speed=4 dev=0,0 SUNY-KS-NFS.iso

 =============================================================================

After that I need only to insert just written CD disk into appropriate
machine and press button 'RESET'. Evrything is done after automatically.

Again thanks a lot for all advices.

Andrey.
