Driver disk?

I have tried to create a driver disk for my sata chipset but the SL
install process asks me to insert my driver disk into /dev/hda!

Is there any way of telling the boot process where to look for the
driver disk? I've tried the obvious things such as dd=/dev/fd0 etc.
