I had the same experience on a fresh SL6 (x86_64) install.  The sound
support on other applications is a bit erratic but mostly works.  The
camera Ekiga doesn't see and the audio too work in skype (the latest
Fedora version) and EVO and the camera in cheeze.  Alas, I did not spend
much time on it since this was not a major issue for me.  If someone has
solved this problem or knows whether TUV has a bug report it might be
useful to know.
