You're absolutely right, I really should have mentioned that...  Oops.

Having said that, please consider this disclaimer (better late than never?)

As always with unofficial suggestions like this - "it works for me",
doesn't mean that it works for everyone in every environment.  Use
unofficial patching methods with caution.  You may want to only use
unofficial methods for hosts that are no longer vendor supported.

To anyone that has an environment with a mixture of vendor supported and
non supported installations, I have not had any issues applying this fix
to all systems.  Any box that had an updated glibc installed wasn't
negatively impacted by the change.  Thus, if anyone wants to just update
all machines regardless of their vendor support status, there shouldn't
be any conflict with the vendor patches and this method.

Finally, as Zhi-Wei Lu pointed out, there are many ways of applying the
changes (rdist, config mgmt tools like cfengine, shared NFS mounts, or
... whatever).
