I use VLC to play/stream audio. With the previous kernel 2.6.32-131.21.1 all 
playback is clean. With the new kernel it has static when running with the 
latest VLC version, but plays fine with kaffeine. I reverted ti 2.6.32-
131.21.1 and the problem went away. Nothing else is different between the 
runs. Could this be an ALSA driver problem? FWIW, this also affects videos 
played on VLC.
