I understand that the next CASTOR version will be split into more
bits&pieces. libshift.so will be provided by something like

$ rpm -qlp castor-lib-2.0.0-2.i386.rpm
 /usr/lib/libshift.a
 /usr/lib/libshift.so
 /usr/lib/libshift.so.2.0
 /usr/lib/libshift.so.2.0.0.2
 /usr/share/doc/castor-lib/changelog.Debian.gz
 /usr/share/doc/castor-lib/copyright

so no more daemons should accidentally land on your machines..
