Hi,

You should have got my mail that my problem was that I had "setenv 
MOZ_NO_REMOTE 1"
in my .cshrc .   Turning it off fixes my problem.

In thunderbird,  Edit-> Preferences -> Advanced-> General, and "Config 
"Editor" is the button
at the bottom.
