In the current 2.6.9-42.XX kernels there is a bug in the Intel ICH7
(snd-azx) sound driver preventing any sound output on some sound chip
variants (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=202735 )

probably this is the problem you see ...

Hopefully will be fixed in next kernel update ...
(for now as a workaround you could try using the 2.6.9-34
kernel which seems to be the last on which this driver works..)
