I have recompiled the driver for the 2.6.9-42.0.3EL kernel and put it in 
the testing area.

For users with a generic SL yum-conf you should be able to do

   yum --enablerepo=sl-testing update kernel-module-ipw\*
or if it isn't installed
   yum --enablerepo=sl-testing install kernel-module-ipw3945-2.6.9-42.0.3.EL
  yum --enablerepo=sl-testing install 
kernel-module-ipw3945-2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp

I also don't have the proper hardware to test it, so I don't know if it 
works or not yet.
