beta install problem

hello, i tried to install beta on a IBM X 31 machine, less than a year old, and it said it cant create the root partition, i have another linux distro on that partition and i wanted to overwrite it, but it said it wouldnt, i choose custom install and its about 4 GB big.  any one else have this problem?
