I have a mini-ITX system with a 945GME chipset. It has run various
versions of Fedora w/o major problems. I installed 32 bit SL6.1 on it,
but the graphics does not recognize properly with the "intel" driver,
and it fails over to VESA. This is no good, because one of my critical
applications requires Xvideo.

All packages are up-to-date. Currently:
2.6.32-131.21.1.el6.i686
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.7-29.el6_1.2.i686
xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.14.0-1.el6.i686

I upgraded to xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.16.0-1.el6.elrepo.i686 using the
elrepo-testing repository. No change, it still fails.

Xorg.0.log and lspci listings available from this forum thread:

A similar system but with a 945GM chipset works fine.

Any ideas? Thanks.
