Yes, I created a mountable DVD that contained one file: the iso
I was trying to burn.  I created a data disk with a copy of
my iso inside it.

That is exactly what happened.

Here is my run string.  Any idea what I did wrong?

growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/sr0  \
           ./SL-61-x86_64-2011-07-27-Everything-DVD2.iso
