I didn't want to say anything until I knew things were actually working
and they seem to be now. After doing a lot of Google searching, reading the
/usr/src/linux-2.4/drivers/scsi/[README.st,st_options.h] files, testing, and
more Google searching, I've found something that seems to work now. I've
added the following line to our /etc/modules.conf file:
options st buffer_kbs=2048 max_buffers=16 max_sg_segs=64
I made the initial buffer size twice as big as the error message
complaint size and made the other parameters 4 times as large as the defaults.
I don't know which option or combination of options actually fixed things,
but I've done several full backups with out rebooting and it hasn't failed
yet. I'll keep a close eye on it just to make sure this actually fixed the
problem and not simply postponed it for a while.
