Dear SL, I am setting up SL 4 on a desktop PC as a possible prototype
for our group. One problem I have is that I can't find some of my
favourite software packages. In particular, I am missing:

- auctex (the real TeX/LaTeX mode for emacs), and
- tin (the newsreader).

I am sure this list will get longer with time. Does anybody know where
I can find suitable rpms? I already have the sites listed under
https://www.scientificlinux.org/community/repo in my
/etc/apt/sources.list.d.

Another problem is the display of 8 bit characters (latin1 e.g.) in a
konsole window. Mutt running locally does it correctly (it also shows
the chinese characters in my spam mail), but less or cat or slogin
sessions display just junk. Does anybody have a good idea about what to
do? I have LANG=en_US.UTF-8 and I think utf8 is a good thing. I am just
looking for ways to make the transition period, where not all software
and not all machines know utf8, less painful.

Klaus
