It is the same as any other software RAID. If you do a search for
"software RAID vs hardware RAID", you will find as many opinions as
you could possibly want.

My own view: For a workstation with a few drives in a RAID0, RAID1, or
RAID10 configuration, I highly doubt you could notice any difference.
Where hardware RAID shines is on large disk arrays at more
sophisticated RAID levels.
