Our CUPS server by default does not know that our printer is fitted 
with the optional duplexer attachment and an optional additional paper 
tray.

I fed it the appropriate PPD file, and then called the CUPS "Configure 
printer" web page to tell it about these details (and to configure the 
paper size for A4 of course ;-).
