Just so you know, the grub info page has been updated dramatically.  It has
lots of stuff in it, and it's easy to find that info now.  Whoever is was that
listened to my ranting and updated it ... thanks.
That being said, let's answer this question using their info page.

"In LBA mode, GRUB can access the entire disk."

So it sounds like there currently is no limit.  I know from personal
experience I've put everything in the last 10 Gig of a 80 gig disk.  So I have
tested it somewhat.
