Mock worked great, thanks for the pointer.
The sl6 config needed a bit of a tweak to get it to build perfect packages:
* ccache seems to be broken/unavailable in the build root - fixed with:
config_opts['plugin_conf']['ccache_enable'] = False
* distro tag was set to Linux, rather than el6
