Hi

  For the benefit of others upgrading to the recent mysql-server
  update

  mysql-server-3.23.58-2.3

  on two hosts now mysql fails to start with

  # /etc/init.d/mysqld start
  Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon.
  Starting MySQL:                                            [FAILED]

  Looking at RHSA-2004:569-01 it contains amongst other things
  108779 - Always timeout error starting MySQL Daemon.

  Changing
  ping="/usr/bin/mysqladmin -uUNKNOWN_MYSQL_USER ping"
  in /etc/init.d/mysql
  ping="/usr/bin/mysqladmin -uUNKNOWN_MYSQL_USER -t 5 ping"

  resolves the situation.

  I've added something to the Redhat bug itself.

    Steve
