update:
I replaced the older T2xxx Socket M processors in those old
laptops with new T7200 processors, about $9 each from eBay and
Hong Kong. That makes them 64 bit, and increases cache, for
the same operating power. I do not know about the long-term
reliability of the particular devices I purchased. They may be
relabeled counterfeits. Still, assuming these or other T7200s
are reliable, my stockpile will remain useful for a long time.
Does anyone know about future kernel processor requirements,
or what RHEL 8, 9, ... might demand from hardware?
I am slowly converting my running machines from SL5.5/6.5 and
Gnome2 to SL7 and Mate, with inadequate progress notes at

P.S.: I got a lot of fnal.gov rejects sending this.
Likely PEBKAC, but if you see more than one copy
then I misinterpreted the reject messages, sorry.
