OK, this would be yum-conf-40-4.SL.noarch.rpm

Its response to -Uvh is that yum-conf-303-2.SL is newer than that
so it doesn't want to update.

So I've done it with --force

Now, "yum update" does seem to be proceeding in a rather more sensible 
fashion.
