One thing that helped me when I was setting up the two laptops I tested, 
was I did a

/etc/init.d/kudzu start

After installing everything.  It then saw and setup the card for me 
(except for the networksettings) so I was then able to just do a

modprobe ipw3945
/sbin/ipw3945d

But to answer your question, to find out where a package is that's in a 
rpm do a 'rpm -ql <packagename>'

So in this case you would do a

   rpm -ql kernel-module-ipw3945-2.6.9-42.0.2.EL

Which shows

/lib/modules/2.6.9-42.0.2.EL/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/ipw3945/ipw3945.ko
