Hi Leonie,

I pulled down
http://linux1.fnal.gov/linux/scientific/6.1/i386/iso/SL-61-i386-2011-07-27-Install-DVD.iso

It has a SHA1SUM of
78e54d001f83aa888d04ccc590a5bdb2590c1b98

and MD5SUM of
1b08ac3d03cb17f49a691e257f21e9fd

And I'm able to boot it on a 32 bit system (PAE is required though).
The installation runs 2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.i686 and installs that kernel
as well.

I'm afraid I can't replicate your problem. Can I have you verify your
media sums?
