On boards supporting USB-boot, a stick can always be used for BIOS
update. If you use HP_BOOT_UTILIY.exe to preformat the stick, you are
able to run most firmware installs requiring the totally outdated
'msdos', which nonetheless most BIOS + firmware updaters want.
Probably you need a 32bit machine to install the utility.
