As Patrick mentioned, ELRepo's kmod-e1000e package may be worth a try
because its driver version is newer:

EL5: 1.3.10-k2
EL6: 1.2.20-k2
ELRepo: 1.4.4

If that does not make any difference and you want to remove it, it's
as easy as running 'rpm -e kmod-e1000e'.
