Hi 
  I have an SL5.2 installation of Fermi Linux
cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 ([log in to unmask]) (gcc version 
4.1.2 20071124 (Red Hat 4.1.2-42)) #1 SMP Wed Jun 25 12:38:37 EDT 2008

When I try to start pidgin I get 
libnm_glib_nm_state_cb: dbus returned an error.
  (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown) The name 
org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files

I see that this is reported on
http://pidgin.im/pipermail/tracker/2007-August/011431.html
but there does not seem to be a resolution.

Pidgin is also available from Applications->Internet->Internet Messenger 
(at least I infer this from the animal icon).  If I use this, 
I get the "wait" (circle of dots) and after a few seconds it stops. I 
guess it is the same problem as typing interactively.

Can you help?
